Walking to chords, what is the method, or rule of thumb for different chords?

I think you mean how to move from one chord to the next?

The simple rule of thumb (!) is to move as little as possible.

For example, if you are playing a C major chord; it has the notes C-E-G. Now if the next chord you will play is let's say a G major chord, G-B-D; since both chords have the note G, this will stay where it is, C can go to B, and E to D since they are closest.

This gives you a smooth transition from one chord to the next.

So, when moving from one chord to the next, first look for common tones and keep those the same, then look for the nearest note for those that need to be changed.

You can practice by playing chord inversions, this will help you to learn to see the chord patterns and make it easier to find the chords.
